Oswego Varsity Shows Fight in Tough Weekend Against Maine and Hinsdale
Friday, November 14 — Oswego 1, Maine 4
Oswego opened the weekend with a tough 4–1 loss to Maine, falling to 4–8 on the season. The game was punctuated by high shot volume from Maine, who outshot Oswego 43–13 and maintained pressure throughout. Despite the barrage, goalie Carter turned in an impressive 39-save performance to keep the game within reach.
Oswego’s lone goal came in the second period when Lopez finished off a play set up by C. Brinkman and Wellehan. Maine answered with four goals from Sewart, Chansed, Pape, and Cooney to pull away. Oswego also had to contend with penalty trouble — Matson and C. Brinkman each served a pair of penalties, and Quinn added another.
Saturday, November 15 — Oswego 1, Hinsdale 4
Oswego’s struggles continued Saturday with another 4–1 loss, this time to Hinsdale. After a scoreless first period, Hinsdale exploded for two goals from Daze and Nikolaev (the later capitalizing on the power play) in the second and added annother two from Daze and Yu (PP) in the third to seal it.
Oswego’s lone breakthrough came on a second-period goal by Jax Wellehan, assisted by Ryan Lopez, cutting the deficit to 2–1 at the time. But despite generating 31 shots, Oswego couldn’t find the back of the net again. Carter made 38 saves in net, while Hinsdale’s Mathieu made 30 saves.
Oswego had its share of penalty challenges again, with Brinkman, Kadolph, DeLarber, and Kubek all serving time in the box. Hinsdale took three minors of their own, including a too many men call, but their special teams capitalized on key chances
